Databricks for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

The gold tables your team publishes in Databricks Unity Catalog, its metric views and the jobs that refresh them are all fair questions for Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot. Answers come from a SQL warehouse you choose. Unity Catalog row filters and column masks still apply, and each request is logged against a named person. Our team works with your platform owners to connect Databricks in a guided pilot.

Ask in a sentence

What can your team ask Databricks?

Questions from data analyst, analytics engineer, head of data and others, answered from live Databricks data and only for the people allowed to see them.

Records it works with

  • Catalogs
  • Schemas
  • Tables
  • Metric views
  • Notebooks
  • Jobs
  • SQL warehouses
  • Data analyst

“Using the sales catalog, what was gross margin by product family for the last six months?”

  • Analytics engineer

“Which jobs in the finance workspace failed overnight, and which gold tables did they leave stale?”

  • Head of data

“How many DBUs did each SQL warehouse use last week, and which teams drove the increase?”

  • Data steward

“Which tables in Unity Catalog are tagged as holding personal data but have no column mask?”

  • Supply chain analyst

“What is forecast accuracy by distribution center, from the approved demand metric view?”

  • Data scientist

“Which notebooks read the customer_churn table, according to Unity Catalog lineage?”

Changes, governed

What the assistant can prepare in Databricks

The assistant never saves on its own. It prepares the change, the person checks the preview and confirms, and anything above your limits waits for an approver.

  1. 1 Prepare The assistant drafts the change from the request.
  2. 2 Preview and confirm The person sees exactly what will change.
  3. 3 Approve Above your limits, a second person decides.
  4. 4 Saved and logged Written to Databricks under a named person.
  • Pause the schedule of a job that keeps failing

The job owner confirms; jobs that feed executive dashboards need the head of data to agree.

  • Add a comment or tag to a table in Unity Catalog

Plain comments go through on the person's say; sensitivity tags change who may read a table, so a data steward approves them.

  • Stop a SQL warehouse that has sat idle for hours

The platform owner confirms; shared warehouses that dashboards use need the analytics lead to agree.

Example rules. During the pilot you set the limits, the approvers and which roles may prepare each change.

Why it needs care

Governance built for Databricks

A Databricks workspace mixes raw bronze data, personal experiments in notebooks and the gold tables leaders rely on. Each role reaches only the catalogs and schemas agreed for it, which keeps half-finished experiments out of answers. Unity Catalog masks and row filters remain in force. If a job gets paused, the platform team can trace the request to a person.

  • Sign-in by work email

Only people you invite, with a one-time code. No shared logins.

  • Roles per tool

Each role reaches only the Databricks records it needs.

  • View only, if you prefer

Admins can keep a connection to lookups with one switch.

  • A preview first

Every change is shown in full before anything is saved.

  • Approval rules

Above your limits, a second person approves the change.

  • One audit log

Every request tied to a named person, ready for review.

How Databricks gets connected

We connect Databricks for your team in a guided pilot, on the same gateway every app uses. No code on your side.

  1. 01

    Agree the questions

We list the Databricks questions and changes your team needs, and who may use each.

  2. 02

    Connect with your admin

Your Databricks administrator creates a dedicated integration user with only that access.

  3. 03

    Test with your people

A small group tries it in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot while we tune the tools.

  4. 04

    Roll out with rules

Roles, approval limits and the audit log are in place before everyone joins.

Databricks questions

Does mcpbizapps work with Unity Catalog permissions?

Yes. The connection uses a service principal that holds only the grants you approve in Unity Catalog. mcpbizapps then applies its own roles, so analysts might reach the sales catalog while finance reaches only finance. Column masks and row filters keep working as you set them.

Can an assistant run Databricks notebooks?

Not as a way to answer questions. Answers come from read-only SQL on a SQL warehouse. An assistant can report on notebook jobs and their runs, and prepare a pause or schedule change for the job owner to confirm.

How is this different from Databricks Genie?

Genie answers questions inside Databricks. mcpbizapps lets people ask from Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot, with one set of roles, approvals and logging across Databricks and your other business apps, so a single question can combine lakehouse data with records from another system.

Does mcpbizapps keep a copy of our Databricks data?

No. When someone asks a question, mcpbizapps reads the answer live from Databricks through a dedicated integration user and returns it without storing it. The audit log records who asked, which tool ran and the result, with personal fields and free text removed.

Databricks is a trademark of its owner. mcpbizapps is not affiliated with Databricks; the name describes the connection only.
