Power BI for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot
Power BI semantic models already hold the measures behind the reports people open every day. mcpbizapps lets Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot answer from those same measures. Row-level security roles still decide which rows each person sees, and refresh history tells you how current a number is. The query behind each answer is saved. Your BI team and ours set up the tenant connection as part of a guided pilot.

Changes, governed
What the assistant can prepare in Power BI
The assistant never saves on its own. It prepares the change, the person checks the preview and confirms, and anything above your limits waits for an approver.
- 1 Prepare The assistant drafts the change from the request.
- 2 Preview and confirm The person sees exactly what will change.
- 3 Approve Above your limits, a second person decides.
- 4 Saved and logged Written to Power BI under a named person.
-
Trigger an on-demand refresh of a semantic model
The model owner confirms; refreshes on shared capacity during peak hours need the capacity admin.
-
Subscribe a team to a report page each morning
Workspace members can be subscribed on the person's word; anyone outside the workspace needs the workspace admin.
-
Change the scheduled refresh time of a semantic model
Finance models feed close reporting, so moving their refresh needs the finance BI lead to agree.
Example rules. During the pilot you set the limits, the approvers and which roles may prepare each change.
Why it needs care
Governance built for Power BI
Power BI semantic models hold the measures leaders trust, and row-level security is often the only thing keeping a manager to their own region. Answers run as the signed-in person's role, so that boundary holds, and sensitivity labels are respected. A refresh or subscription change is shown before it happens. The BI team keeps every DAX query for review.
-
Sign-in by work email
Only people you invite, with a one-time code. No shared logins.
-
Roles per tool
Each role reaches only the Power BI records it needs.
-
View only, if you prefer
Admins can keep a connection to lookups with one switch.
-
A preview first
Every change is shown in full before anything is saved.
-
Approval rules
Above your limits, a second person approves the change.
-
One audit log
Every request tied to a named person, ready for review.

Power BI questions
Can Claude ask questions of a Power BI semantic model?
Yes. The assistant writes a DAX query against the measures and tables in an approved semantic model, so answers use your definitions of revenue or margin rather than raw tables. The query is shown and logged with the answer.
Does Power BI row-level security still apply?
Yes. During the pilot we map each mcpbizapps role to a Power BI role or the matching user, and queries run with that identity so RLS filters apply. We test it with a few named people before anyone else uses it.
How is this different from Copilot in Power BI?
Copilot in Power BI works inside Power BI. mcpbizapps lets people ask from Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, and the approval rules and request history that cover Power BI also cover your ERP or CRM.
Does mcpbizapps keep a copy of our Power BI data?
No. When someone asks a question, mcpbizapps reads the answer live from Power BI through a dedicated integration user and returns it without storing it. The audit log records who asked, which tool ran and the result, with personal fields and free text removed.
Power BI is a trademark of its owner. mcpbizapps is not affiliated with Microsoft; the name describes the connection only.
