Jira for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

Engineering and product teams can ask Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot which Jira issues are blocking the current sprint, how an epic is tracking against its fix version and what changed on a board this week. People reach the projects they already work in. Every issue update is shown before saving. Projects holding security fixes can be left out of the guided pilot.

Ask in a sentence

What can your team ask Jira?

Questions from engineering manager, product manager, scrum master and others, answered from live Jira data and only for the people allowed to see them.

Records it works with

  • Issues
  • Epics
  • Sprints
  • Boards
  • Versions
  • Components
  • Comments
  • Engineering manager

“Which issues in the current sprint for the Payments team are still in To Do with two days left?”

  • Product manager

“How many stories under the Checkout Redesign epic are done, and which ones have no assignee?”

  • Scrum master

“What was added to sprint 42 after it started, and who added it?”

  • QA lead

“List open bugs with priority Highest in the Mobile project created since Monday.”

  • Release manager

“Which issues have fix version 3.8 but are not resolved yet?”

  • Support engineer

“Is there already an issue for the CSV export timeout that Larkspur Foods reported?”

Changes, governed

What the assistant can prepare in Jira

The assistant never saves on its own. It prepares the change, the person checks the preview and confirms, and anything above your limits waits for an approver.

  1. 1 Prepare The assistant drafts the change from the request.
  2. 2 Preview and confirm The person sees exactly what will change.
  3. 3 Approve Above your limits, a second person decides.
  4. 4 Saved and logged Written to Jira under a named person.
  • Create a bug from a support conversation, with steps to reproduce

The reporter confirms the preview; a bug set to priority Highest needs the team lead to approve.

  • Move unfinished issues to the next sprint

Moving more than five issues out of an active sprint needs the scrum master to approve.

  • Change the fix version on an issue

Changes to a version already scheduled for release need the release manager to approve.

  • Add a comment summarizing a customer call to an issue

Comments that quote a customer are checked for wording by the person before they post.

Example rules. During the pilot you set the limits, the approvers and which roles may prepare each change.

Why it needs care

Governance built for Jira

Issue descriptions often carry security bugs, unreleased plans and customer names. Bugs set to Highest need the team lead, pulling more than five issues out of an active sprint needs the scrum master, and versions already scheduled are guarded by the release manager. Engineering managers can trace who asked about or changed each issue.

  • Sign-in by work email

Only people you invite, with a one-time code. No shared logins.

  • Roles per tool

Each role reaches only the Jira records it needs.

  • View only, if you prefer

Admins can keep a connection to lookups with one switch.

  • A preview first

Every change is shown in full before anything is saved.

  • Approval rules

Above your limits, a second person approves the change.

  • One audit log

Every request tied to a named person, ready for review.

How Jira gets connected

We connect Jira for your team in a guided pilot, on the same gateway every app uses. No code on your side.

  1. 01

    Agree the questions

We list the Jira questions and changes your team needs, and who may use each.

  2. 02

    Connect with your admin

Your Jira administrator creates a dedicated integration user with only that access.

  3. 03

    Test with your people

A small group tries it in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot while we tune the tools.

  4. 04

    Roll out with rules

Roles, approval limits and the audit log are in place before everyone joins.

Jira questions

Can the assistant use our saved Jira filters?

Yes. During the pilot we agree which saved filters and projects each role may use, so answers come from the same filters your team already relies on for standups and sprint reviews, and only for people who may see those issues.

Will the assistant see issues in restricted Jira projects?

Only if you allow it. The connection uses a dedicated integration user, so it reaches only the projects that user is granted, and mcpbizapps roles narrow that further for each person. Projects that hold security fixes can be left out entirely.

Can it close or delete Jira issues?

It can prepare a transition, such as moving an issue to Done, which the person confirms. Deleting issues is not offered. Transitions beyond the limits you set wait for an approver, and each one is recorded against a named person.

Does mcpbizapps keep a copy of our Jira data?

No. When someone asks a question, mcpbizapps reads the answer live from Jira through a dedicated integration user and returns it without storing it. The audit log records who asked, which tool ran and the result, with personal fields and free text removed.

Jira is a trademark of its owner. mcpbizapps is not affiliated with Atlassian; the name describes the connection only.
