Linear for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

Product and engineering teams can ask Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot how the current Linear cycle is going, what landed in Triage overnight, which projects posted an at risk update and what shipped across teams. Each person reaches the teams their role covers. New issues and cycle moves are shown and confirmed first. In the guided pilot you choose which teams are included, so private teams stay private.

Ask in a sentence

What can your team ask Linear?

Questions from engineering manager, product manager, head of engineering and others, answered from live Linear data and only for the people allowed to see them.

Records it works with

  • Issues
  • Cycles
  • Projects
  • Initiatives
  • Teams
  • Triage
  • Labels
  • Engineering manager

“How much of the current cycle for the Core team is completed, and what rolled over from the last one?”

  • Product manager

“Which issues in the Onboarding v2 project are still in Backlog with a target date next month?”

  • Head of engineering

“Which initiatives have a project marked at risk in its latest project update?”

  • Support lead

“What has landed in Triage for the Integrations team in the last 48 hours?”

  • Product designer

“Which issues labeled design-review are assigned to me in this cycle?”

  • Founder

“Summarize what shipped across all teams in the last two cycles.”

Changes, governed

What the assistant can prepare in Linear

The assistant never saves on its own. It prepares the change, the person checks the preview and confirms, and anything above your limits waits for an approver.

  1. 1 Prepare The assistant drafts the change from the request.
  2. 2 Preview and confirm The person sees exactly what will change.
  3. 3 Approve Above your limits, a second person decides.
  4. 4 Saved and logged Written to Linear under a named person.
  • Create an issue in Triage from a customer conversation

New Triage issues marked Urgent need the team lead to approve.

  • Move unfinished issues into the next cycle

Moving more than six issues between cycles needs the engineering manager to approve.

  • Draft a project update with a health status

The project lead confirms the wording, and setting a project to off track needs their approval.

Example rules. During the pilot you set the limits, the approvers and which roles may prepare each change.

Why it needs care

Governance built for Linear

Linear is where a company decides what to build next, so it holds unreleased features, customer requests and candid project updates. Urgent priority needs the team lead. Moving more than six issues between cycles goes to the engineering manager, and only the project lead can mark a project off track. Managers can see who asked about which project.

  • Sign-in by work email

Only people you invite, with a one-time code. No shared logins.

  • Roles per tool

Each role reaches only the Linear records it needs.

  • View only, if you prefer

Admins can keep a connection to lookups with one switch.

  • A preview first

Every change is shown in full before anything is saved.

  • Approval rules

Above your limits, a second person approves the change.

  • One audit log

Every request tied to a named person, ready for review.

How Linear gets connected

We connect Linear for your team in a guided pilot, on the same gateway every app uses. No code on your side.

  1. 01

    Agree the questions

We list the Linear questions and changes your team needs, and who may use each.

  2. 02

    Connect with your admin

Your Linear administrator creates a dedicated integration user with only that access.

  3. 03

    Test with your people

A small group tries it in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot while we tune the tools.

  4. 04

    Roll out with rules

Roles, approval limits and the audit log are in place before everyone joins.

Linear questions

Does it understand Linear cycles and project updates?

Yes. It reads cycle progress, scope added after a cycle began and issues that rolled over, and it reads project updates with their health status. That lets a manager ask about a cycle or a project in the words the team already uses.

Can it read issues from every team in our workspace?

Only the teams you include. During the pilot we choose which teams the integration user can reach, and roles then decide which of those teams each person may ask about, so a private team stays private.

Can the assistant change estimates or assignees in Linear?

It can prepare those changes, and the person confirms them in a preview. You can require approval for bulk reassignment or for any change to an issue already in the active cycle, and each confirmation is logged.

Does mcpbizapps keep a copy of our Linear data?

No. When someone asks a question, mcpbizapps reads the answer live from Linear through a dedicated integration user and returns it without storing it. The audit log records who asked, which tool ran and the result, with personal fields and free text removed.

Linear is a trademark of its owner. mcpbizapps is not affiliated with Linear; the name describes the connection only.
