Cube for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

Cube keeps finance in Excel or Google Sheets, but budget holders still have questions. They can ask Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot about actuals against a budget scenario, how two forecast scenarios differ, spend by department and account and what changed since the last publish. Each person reaches only their departments and scenarios. Cube is connected for your company in a guided pilot run by finance.

Ask in a sentence

What can your team ask Cube?

Questions from head of finance, marketing director, finance manager and others, answered from live Cube data and only for the people allowed to see them.

Records it works with

  • Scenarios
  • Accounts
  • Departments
  • Dimensions
  • Actuals
  • Reports
  • Head of finance

“Compare the 2027 budget scenario with the current forecast scenario for total opex by department.”

  • Marketing director

“How much of the paid acquisition budget did we use through September?”

  • Finance manager

“Which accounts moved more than 10% between the last two published forecasts?”

  • Startup CFO

“What does the downside scenario show for months of runway at the current burn rate?”

  • Engineering manager

“Are we over budget on contractor spend for the platform team this quarter?”

  • Staff accountant

“Do actuals in Cube for August match the trial balance totals from the ledger?”

Changes, governed

What the assistant can prepare in Cube

The assistant never saves on its own. It prepares the change, the person checks the preview and confirms, and anything above your limits waits for an approver.

  1. 1 Prepare The assistant drafts the change from the request.
  2. 2 Preview and confirm The person sees exactly what will change.
  3. 3 Approve Above your limits, a second person decides.
  4. 4 Saved and logged Written to Cube under a named person.
  • Update a forecast value for one account and department

Changes above $20,000 for the year need the head of finance.

  • Create a new scenario from the current forecast

The person confirms; new scenarios stay draft until finance approves them.

  • Adjust a monthly spend assumption in a budget scenario

Edits to the approved budget scenario are blocked unless the CFO approves.

Example rules. During the pilot you set the limits, the approvers and which roles may prepare each change.

Why it needs care

Governance built for Cube

Cube sits between the ledger and the spreadsheets finance shares around the company, so a stray edit can reach many workbooks after the next fetch. Budget holders stay in their departments. The approved budget scenario is locked unless the CFO agrees, and new scenarios stay in draft until finance approves them.

  • Sign-in by work email

Only people you invite, with a one-time code. No shared logins.

  • Roles per tool

Each role reaches only the Cube records it needs.

  • View only, if you prefer

Admins can keep a connection to lookups with one switch.

  • A preview first

Every change is shown in full before anything is saved.

  • Approval rules

Above your limits, a second person approves the change.

  • One audit log

Every request tied to a named person, ready for review.

Cube questions

Does this replace the Cube spreadsheet add-in?

No. Finance keeps building in Excel or Google Sheets with Cube. The assistant serves the people who ask questions about those numbers, such as budget holders, without needing a workbook.

Can it explain a variance against budget?

Yes. It compares actuals and the budget scenario by account and department, then names the lines that drove the difference, so a budget holder can answer finance before month-end review.

Which scenarios can people change?

You decide. Many teams allow changes only to forecast or what-if scenarios and keep the approved budget read-only, or require the CFO to approve any edit made to it by anyone.

Does mcpbizapps keep a copy of our Cube data?

No. When someone asks a question, mcpbizapps reads the answer live from Cube through a dedicated integration user and returns it without storing it. The audit log records who asked, which tool ran and the result, with personal fields and free text removed.

Cube is a trademark of its owner. mcpbizapps is not affiliated with Cube; the name describes the connection only.
