AI assistants for FP&A and financial planning
An AI assistant connected to a planning platform answers the questions budget owners and FP&A teams trade by email: how actuals compare with plan, why a forecast moved, what a scenario does to cash or headcount. mcpbizapps keeps each person inside the versions, departments and models their role allows, shows any plan edit as a preview first, routes material changes to an approver and records every request.

Use cases
What teams use it for
-
Budget against actual for owners
Department heads ask how they are tracking against budget this quarter and which lines are over, without waiting for the monthly variance pack or learning the planning tool.
-
Forecast questions during the cycle
FP&A analysts ask which submissions are still missing, what changed since the last forecast and which drivers moved the total, so review meetings start from the same facts.
-
What-if scenarios on request
A finance leader asks what a hiring delay or a price change does to the year, and the assistant prepares a scenario copy for review instead of touching the working forecast.
-
Board and leadership prep
CFO staff pull consistent figures from the approved version for board decks and leadership updates, with each question logged so the numbers can be traced later.
Real questions
Questions people ask in Financial planning apps
A sample from the app pages. Each answer comes live from the app, for the people allowed to see it.
- “In the opex module, which cost centers are more than 8% over the current forecast version for Q3?”
- “Which levels have not submitted their numbers for the Q2 reforecast version yet?”
- “How does my travel and entertainment spend compare with the Q4 forecast scenario?”
- “Which transaction list entries drove the September variance in software spend?”
- “Which close tasks in the October schedule are late, and who owns them?”
- “Do actuals in Cube for August match the trial balance totals from the ledger?”
- “Which month-end close tasks for October are still open, and which reconciliations are unsigned?”
- “Which accounts in cost center 4710 are above plan this year?”
Governance
What to control in Financial planning
Planning models hold unreleased forecasts, salary plans and board numbers, and a change to the wrong version can quietly alter what leadership sees. The real risk is people seeing figures above their level, or an edit landing in an approved budget. Roles limit each person to their own departments, versions and models. Previews show the exact cells or drivers that will change. Approvals send material edits and version copies to FP&A. The audit log shows who asked for each figure and each change.

Financial planning questions
Can budget owners see other departments’ plans?
Only if their role allows it. Roles can follow your departments, cost centers or entities, so a marketing lead sees marketing spend while the CFO and FP&A see the whole plan. Salary lines can be hidden from roles that should not see them.
Will the assistant overwrite our approved budget?
No. Edits are prepared as a preview, and you choose which versions can be changed at all. Many teams lock the approved budget and let assistants work only on forecast or scenario versions, with an FP&A approver for material changes.
Do answers match the numbers in our planning reports?
They come from the same live model, so a variance an assistant explains uses the same versions, accounts and time periods as your reports. Answers say which version and period they used, which makes checks quick.
