Google Sheets for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

Finance, sales and operations teams can ask Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot about Google Sheets: which departments are over budget on the Actuals tab, which campaign rows have spend but no leads and what changed in a pricing spreadsheet since Tuesday. People reach spreadsheets they can already open, and cell changes are shown before saving. During the guided pilot we agree which input cells may change.

Ask in a sentence

What can your team ask Google Sheets?

Questions from finance analyst, sales operations manager, marketing manager and others, answered from live Google Sheets data and only for the people allowed to see them.

Records it works with

  • Spreadsheets
  • Sheets
  • Named ranges
  • Pivot tables
  • Comments
  • Version history
  • Finance analyst

“In the FY27 Budget spreadsheet, which departments are over budget on the Actuals tab?”

  • Sales operations manager

“Sum closed deals by region from the Bookings tab for October.”

  • Marketing manager

“Which rows in the Campaign Tracker have spend recorded but no leads?”

  • Pricing analyst

“What changed in the Pricing Master spreadsheet since last Tuesday, and who changed it?”

  • Founder

“From the Hiring Plan sheet, how many roles start in the first quarter?”

  • Project coordinator

“Which comments on the Store Rollout tracker are still open, and who left them?”

Changes, governed

What the assistant can prepare in Google Sheets

The assistant never saves on its own. It prepares the change, the person checks the preview and confirms, and anything above your limits waits for an approver.

  1. 1 Prepare The assistant drafts the change from the request.
  2. 2 Preview and confirm The person sees exactly what will change.
  3. 3 Approve Above your limits, a second person decides.
  4. 4 Saved and logged Written to Google Sheets under a named person.
  • Append rows to a tracker tab

The person confirms the rows; spreadsheets owned by finance need a finance approver to confirm.

  • Update values in a named range

Changes to more than twenty cells, or to any budget figure, need the spreadsheet owner to approve.

  • Add a comment for a colleague on a cell

The person reviews the comment text before it is posted.

Example rules. During the pilot you set the limits, the approvers and which roles may prepare each change.

Why it needs care

Governance built for Google Sheets

Budgets, commissions and pricing often live in spreadsheets edited by many hands. Before any cell changes, the before and after values are shown. Edits to more than twenty cells, or to any budget figure, go to the spreadsheet owner, and rows on finance sheets need a finance approver. Reads and edits are both logged by range.

  • Sign-in by work email

Only people you invite, with a one-time code. No shared logins.

  • Roles per tool

Each role reaches only the Google Sheets records it needs.

  • View only, if you prefer

Admins can keep a connection to lookups with one switch.

  • A preview first

Every change is shown in full before anything is saved.

  • Approval rules

Above your limits, a second person approves the change.

  • One audit log

Every request tied to a named person, ready for review.

How Google Sheets gets connected

We connect Google Sheets for your team in a guided pilot, on the same gateway every app uses. No code on your side.

  1. 01

    Agree the questions

We list the Google Sheets questions and changes your team needs, and who may use each.

  2. 02

    Connect with your admin

Your Google Sheets administrator creates a dedicated integration user with only that access.

  3. 03

    Test with your people

A small group tries it in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot while we tune the tools.

  4. 04

    Roll out with rules

Roles, approval limits and the audit log are in place before everyone joins.

Google Sheets questions

Can the assistant read formulas or only values?

It reads the values people see and can explain what a formula in a cell does. Formulas themselves are left as the owner wrote them, and changes are limited to input cells you agree on.

Does it work with several tabs at once?

Yes. It can compare a Budget tab with an Actuals tab, or total a column across tabs, and the answer names the tabs and ranges it used so the numbers can be checked.

What happens if two people edit the same sheet?

The assistant reads the current values when it prepares a change, and the preview shows the before and after. If the cells change before you confirm, it asks you to review the new preview.

Does mcpbizapps keep a copy of our Google Sheets data?

No. When someone asks a question, mcpbizapps reads the answer live from Google Sheets through a dedicated integration user and returns it without storing it. The audit log records who asked, which tool ran and the result, with personal fields and free text removed.

Google Sheets is a trademark of its owner. mcpbizapps is not affiliated with Google; the name describes the connection only.
