PowerSchool for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

Which students crossed an absence threshold? Which sections are over capacity, which schedules still have gaps before the term, and how do grades look in a course? District and school staff ask PowerSchool SIS these questions through Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot. Each person stays in their own schools and students, and an attendance correction is shown before it is saved. Your district comes on board through a guided pilot.

Ask in a sentence

What can your team ask PowerSchool?

Questions from assistant principal, school counselor, master scheduler and others, answered from live PowerSchool data and only for the people allowed to see them.

Records it works with

  • Students
  • Sections
  • Attendance
  • Schedules
  • Enrollments
  • Grades
  • Log entries
  • Assistant principal

“Which students at Lincoln Middle have missed 10 percent or more of school days this semester?”

  • School counselor

“Which ninth graders still have an empty period in their spring schedule?”

  • Master scheduler

“Which sections of Algebra 1 are over their maximum enrollment?”

  • Attendance clerk

“Which absences from yesterday are still unexcused with no parent call logged?”

  • District data coordinator

“How does average daily attendance compare across our five elementary schools this month?”

  • Teacher

“Which students in my third period section have a grade below C right now?”

Changes, governed

What the assistant can prepare in PowerSchool

The assistant never saves on its own. It prepares the change, the person checks the preview and confirms, and anything above your limits waits for an approver.

  1. 1 Prepare The assistant drafts the change from the request.
  2. 2 Preview and confirm The person sees exactly what will change.
  3. 3 Approve Above your limits, a second person decides.
  4. 4 Saved and logged Written to PowerSchool under a named person.
  • Correct an attendance code for a student

Recent codes are the clerk's to fix; anything older than 10 school days needs the assistant principal.

  • Move a student to another section of the same course

The counselor confirms, and moves into a full section need the master scheduler to approve.

  • Add a log entry about a parent conference

The staff member confirms the text before saving; discipline log entries need an administrator to approve.

Example rules. During the pilot you set the limits, the approvers and which roles may prepare each change.

Why it needs care

Governance built for PowerSchool

PowerSchool holds records about children: attendance, grades, schedules, health alerts and family contacts. Teachers stay in their sections and school staff in their buildings. Older attendance edits and discipline entries need an administrator. For district review, the record shows who viewed each student and when.

  • Sign-in by work email

Only people you invite, with a one-time code. No shared logins.

  • Roles per tool

Each role reaches only the PowerSchool records it needs.

  • View only, if you prefer

Admins can keep a connection to lookups with one switch.

  • A preview first

Every change is shown in full before anything is saved.

  • Approval rules

Above your limits, a second person approves the change.

  • One audit log

Every request tied to a named person, ready for review.

PowerSchool questions

Can teachers use it for their own sections only?

Yes. A teacher's role covers the sections they teach, so they can ask about attendance and grades for those students and no one else. School and district roles see more, as your district decides.

Does it change attendance in PowerSchool?

It prepares attendance corrections as previews for the clerk or teacher to confirm, and older changes wait for an administrator. Nothing is saved until those steps are done, and each step is logged.

Can it help build the master schedule?

It can answer questions while you build it, such as section counts, capacities and students with gaps. Building and committing the master schedule stays with your scheduling team in PowerSchool.

Does mcpbizapps keep a copy of our PowerSchool data?

No. When someone asks a question, mcpbizapps reads the answer live from PowerSchool through a dedicated integration user and returns it without storing it. The audit log records who asked, which tool ran and the result, with personal fields and free text removed.

PowerSchool is a trademark of its owner. mcpbizapps is not affiliated with PowerSchool; the name describes the connection only.
