Atlan for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

Atlan knows who owns a data product, what a glossary term means, what sits downstream of a table and whether an announcement warns about an issue. mcpbizapps puts those answers in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot. Personas and purposes in Atlan, together with mcpbizapps roles, decide what each person sees. Requests are logged. Your data governance team helps shape the guided pilot that links the workspace.

Ask in a sentence

What can your team ask Atlan?

Questions from data analyst, analytics engineer, data steward and others, answered from live Atlan data and only for the people allowed to see them.

Records it works with

  • Assets
  • Glossaries
  • Terms
  • Data products
  • Domains
  • Lineage
  • Announcements
  • Personas
  • Data analyst

“Which data product in the Sales domain should I use for pipeline, and who owns it?”

  • Analytics engineer

“What dashboards and models sit downstream of the orders table, according to lineage?”

  • Data steward

“Which assets in the Finance domain have no owner or no description?”

  • Head of data

“Which data products have an active warning announcement right now?”

  • Product analyst

“What does the glossary term Activated Account mean, and which columns are linked to it?”

Changes, governed

What the assistant can prepare in Atlan

The assistant never saves on its own. It prepares the change, the person checks the preview and confirms, and anything above your limits waits for an approver.

  1. 1 Prepare The assistant drafts the change from the request.
  2. 2 Preview and confirm The person sees exactly what will change.
  3. 3 Approve Above your limits, a second person decides.
  4. 4 Saved and logged Written to Atlan under a named person.
  • Add an announcement to an asset about a delayed load

The asset owner confirms; warnings on data products used by executives need the domain owner.

  • Link a glossary term to a column

Most glossaries need only the person; links in the Finance glossary wait for its steward.

  • Request access to a data product

The request goes to the data product owner in Atlan, who approves or rejects it.

Example rules. During the pilot you set the limits, the approvers and which roles may prepare each change.

Why it needs care

Governance built for Atlan

Atlan connects every warehouse, BI tool and pipeline, so its metadata reveals a lot about where sensitive data lives. Each role sees only the domains and assets mapped to it, and personas and purposes keep their effect. Announcements and term links wait for confirmation before they are saved, and each lookup or change carries a name.

  • Sign-in by work email

Only people you invite, with a one-time code. No shared logins.

  • Roles per tool

Each role reaches only the Atlan records it needs.

  • View only, if you prefer

Admins can keep a connection to lookups with one switch.

  • A preview first

Every change is shown in full before anything is saved.

  • Approval rules

Above your limits, a second person approves the change.

  • One audit log

Every request tied to a named person, ready for review.

How Atlan gets connected

We connect Atlan for your team in a guided pilot, on the same gateway every app uses. No code on your side.

  1. 01

    Agree the questions

We list the Atlan questions and changes your team needs, and who may use each.

  2. 02

    Connect with your admin

Your Atlan administrator creates a dedicated integration user with only that access.

  3. 03

    Test with your people

A small group tries it in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot while we tune the tools.

  4. 04

    Roll out with rules

Roles, approval limits and the audit log are in place before everyone joins.

Atlan questions

Can Claude use Atlan lineage to answer impact questions?

Yes. Ask what breaks if a column changes, and the assistant follows Atlan lineage downstream to the models, dashboards and data products affected, then lists their owners so you know who to tell.

Do Atlan personas and purposes still apply?

Yes. The integration user sees only what its own persona allows, and mcpbizapps maps each role to the domains it may read. Assets hidden by a purpose policy stay hidden from the assistant too.

Can assistants approve access requests in Atlan?

No. They can open a request and report its status. Approval stays with the data product or asset owner in Atlan, and both the request and the decision are recorded for later review.

Does mcpbizapps keep a copy of our Atlan data?

No. When someone asks a question, mcpbizapps reads the answer live from Atlan through a dedicated integration user and returns it without storing it. The audit log records who asked, which tool ran and the result, with personal fields and free text removed.

Atlan is a trademark of its owner. mcpbizapps is not affiliated with Atlan; the name describes the connection only.
