PagerDuty for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot

Who is on call for a service, which incidents are open, who acknowledged them, how often a service paged this month, what the escalation policy says: PagerDuty knows, and mcpbizapps lets people ask in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot. Acknowledging, adding notes and creating overrides need a confirmation, and wider changes need approval. Every request is logged. Setup is a guided pilot with your incident management lead.

Ask in a sentence

What can your team ask PagerDuty?

Questions from SRE, engineering manager, head of operations and others, answered from live PagerDuty data and only for the people allowed to see them.

Records it works with

  • Incidents
  • Services
  • On-call schedules
  • Escalation policies
  • Alerts
  • Maintenance windows
  • Postmortems
  • SRE

“Who is on call for the payments service right now, and who is next on the escalation policy?”

  • Engineering manager

“How many incidents did my team's services trigger outside business hours last month?”

  • Head of operations

“Which high-urgency incidents are still open, and how long has each one been open?”

  • Support lead

“Is there an open incident on the customer portal, and has a status update gone out?”

  • On-call engineer

“Which alerts were grouped into the current checkout incident, and what triggered the first one?”

  • Incident commander

“Which incidents from the last quarter still have no postmortem?”

Changes, governed

What the assistant can prepare in PagerDuty

The assistant never saves on its own. It prepares the change, the person checks the preview and confirms, and anything above your limits waits for an approver.

  1. 1 Prepare The assistant drafts the change from the request.
  2. 2 Preview and confirm The person sees exactly what will change.
  3. 3 Approve Above your limits, a second person decides.
  4. 4 Saved and logged Written to PagerDuty under a named person.
  • Acknowledge an incident assigned to me

The responder confirms for themselves; nobody else needs to approve.

  • Add an on-call override for a teammate's shift

Both people are named in the preview; overrides longer than 24 hours need the schedule owner.

  • Put a service in a maintenance window

The service owner confirms; windows on business-critical services need the incident commander.

  • Add a note to an incident

The responder checks the wording in the preview and posts it with one confirmation.

Example rules. During the pilot you set the limits, the approvers and which roles may prepare each change.

Why it needs care

Governance built for PagerDuty

PagerDuty decides who gets woken up and when. A wrong override or an extra maintenance window can mean a real outage pages nobody. Each override and window names the people and services it affects before anyone confirms, and the schedule or service owner approves longer ones. Afterwards you can see who acknowledged, noted or changed what.

  • Sign-in by work email

Only people you invite, with a one-time code. No shared logins.

  • Roles per tool

Each role reaches only the PagerDuty records it needs.

  • View only, if you prefer

Admins can keep a connection to lookups with one switch.

  • A preview first

Every change is shown in full before anything is saved.

  • Approval rules

Above your limits, a second person approves the change.

  • One audit log

Every request tied to a named person, ready for review.

Your PagerDuty administrator creates a dedicated integration user with only that access.

  3. 03

    Test with your people

A small group tries it in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot while we tune the tools.

PagerDuty questions

Can Claude acknowledge PagerDuty incidents?

Yes, for the person asking. The assistant shows the incident and asks the responder to confirm before acknowledging it. It does not acknowledge on behalf of someone else, even a teammate.

Can it tell me who is on call?

Yes. Ask for a service, team or schedule and the assistant reads the current on-call schedules and escalation policies, including overrides, and names who is on call now and who is next.

Can an assistant resolve incidents?

It can prepare a resolve for the incident owner to confirm, with the timeline summarized. Admins can also turn the option off for every role, so incidents are resolved only inside PagerDuty after recovery is checked.

Does mcpbizapps keep a copy of our PagerDuty data?

No. When someone asks a question, mcpbizapps reads the answer live from PagerDuty through a dedicated integration user and returns it without storing it. The audit log records who asked, which tool ran and the result, with personal fields and free text removed.

PagerDuty is a trademark of its owner. mcpbizapps is not affiliated with PagerDuty; the name describes the connection only.
